About this artwork

Still giants at first sight, fragile monuments at second glance, these glaciers shot by Stephan Zirwes in the Rhone (Swiss Alps) in 2017 are covered with huge fleece in order to prevent the heavy melting. Indeed, it is estimated that by the next generation, most of the 5000 glaciers in the Alps will melt away. Alike bandages on a slow yet deep and incurable injury, these sheets represent a desperate attempt to preserve these ancestors, who, beyond being tourist attractions, are witnesses of our history, climate and culture.
