Casper Kang

Né à Toronto en 1981, Casper Kang vit et travaille à Seoul, Corée du Sud.

 

Casper Kang puise son inspiration dans le corpus de l’imagerie Coréenne traditionnelle, réinterprétant ainsi de façon libre et informelle le substrat de sa culture maternelle. Qu’il s’agisse de peinture ou d’impressions lenticulaires, chaque œuvre s’appréhende comme une mythologie à part entière dont les structures visuelles ne sont pas sans rappeler la formation d’architecte de l’artiste. A celles-ci, il adjoint des motifs dont la symbolique s’émancipe de leur intention première.  En effet, Casper Kang s’approprie et altère un répertoire formel initialement chargé en histoire auquel il confère une signification ancrée dans son imagination d’enfant. En évidant ceux-ci de leurs contenus conventionnels, il établi un pont entre passé et présent, illustrant ainsi les transformations fondamentales s’opérant dans toute société moderne.  Les créations de Casper Kang sont un miroir de notre temps.
