Manit Sriwanichpoom

Né à Bangkok en 1961, Manit Sriwanichpoom vit et travaille dans sa ville natale.

 

Depuis de nombreuses années, il est devenu une figure emblématique de la scène artistique Bangkokoise. Tournant à la dérision les marottes des nationalistes Thaïlandais ou faisant le sanglant état des lieux du passé politique du pays, son œuvre se révèle toujours d’une redoutable clairvoyance. Connues pour leurs critiques acerbes du consumérisme Thaïlandais, ses séries  Pink Man ont été exposées dans de nombreux pays.  Ses projets plus récents dénotent un retour vers des préoccupations formelles tout en soulevant de nouvelles interrogations sur le devenir d’un pays divisé par une profonde crise politique et symbolique.

 

Récipiendaire du prestigieux prix Higashikawa Overseas Photographer en 2007, les photographies de Manit Sriwanichpoom ont depuis trouvé leur place dans de prestigieuses collections (Maison Européenne de la Photographie à Paris; musée d’art Asiatique de Fukuoka au Japon; musée des Beaux-Arts à Singapour; Queensland Art Gallery aux Etats-Unis; etc.). Parmi ses expositions solo,  Bangkok in Pink fut exposée au musée des Beaux-Arts de Yokohama au Japon, Lambs of God au Centre de la Photographie Contemporaine de Melbourne en Australie, Pink Man in Paradise à la Monash University ainsi qu'au Valentine Willie Fine Art de Kuala Lumpur,  Beijing Pink à Highland Gallery en Chine.
